I hate Christmas.

Which leads to my discovery that there is a lot more to this forty, fine, former NFL quarterback, now fireman, like being a single father to the sweetest little girl, putting me at risk of falling for both of them.
However, I have my reasons not to believe in love and the happiest time of the year. And the first twenty-five days of December tests all my strength.
Just what the Dicken is happening? Charles himself might approve of this plot.
Even I’m a little curious to see how it all plays out.

This holiday novel just might be the 4 alarm fire you didn’t know you were looking for! The sweet, unassuming cover conceals a super sexy story. I am a class A sucker for a firefighter story and this was literally PERFECT. Better yet, it’s a second-chance romance, so there isn’t as much awkwardness as you find in a brand new relationship. Zebb pursues grumpy Eva with a singular purpose. She is his “one that got away.” By the time I was 5 chapters in I was entranced with Zebb and this story had already touched my heart. Dunbar handles real life situations and sensitive issues with finesse. In a way, this was a slow-burn story, but it has some super steamy flares on the way to a happy ending. Zebb will get Eva (and you!) in the Christmas spirit with a generous side of spice! Just… gah. Scrooge-ish will be on my reread list for sure! 4.5 stars
